If you own a Nespresso machine, switching from disposable pods to reusable capsules is one of the fastest ways to cut your coffee costs — and your waste. Here's what to know before you switch.
Which machines they work with
Our stainless steel refillable capsules are compatible with Nespresso Original machines only — not the Vertuo line, which uses a different capsule shape and barcode-reading system. Check your machine model before ordering if you're not sure which line you own.
How to use a reusable capsule
- Open the capsule and fill it with your favourite ground coffee (a fine-to-medium grind works best).
- Tamp it down lightly and close the lid.
- Insert it into your machine and brew as usual.
- Empty the used grounds, rinse the capsule, and it's ready to refill.

Each capsule needs a fresh 37 mm foil seal lid per use — keep a pack of 40 on hand so you're never stuck mid-morning.
How much you actually save
A box of name-brand pods typically costs far more per cup than ground coffee bought in bulk. Once you own the capsules, every cup after that is brewed with whatever coffee you choose — including coffee that costs a fraction of the price of pre-packaged pods. The capsules pay for themselves within the first few weeks for most households.
Why it's better for the environment
Single-use pods create a steady stream of mixed-material waste that's difficult to recycle. Reusable capsules eliminate that waste entirely while giving you full control over the coffee you drink — flavour, roast, origin, even decaf blends Nespresso doesn't sell as pods.
Beyond capsules
If you use a portafilter machine instead, the PurePress fine-mesh espresso filter gives the same control over grind and roast with cleaner extraction.
